Real Pirates Exhibit at the NAT San Diego

One of the first recorded uses of the Jolly Roger, "Black Sam" Bellamy and his crew were feared across the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Their capture of the slave ship Whydah in 1717 ended in disaster off the coast of Cape Cod, leaving Bellamy and 143 crew members dead. The shipwreck was discovered in 1984, and is the main focus of a spellbinding exhibit at the NAT.
