This June 2nd, more than 20,000 runners will flock to San Diego to participate in its annual 26.2-mile Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Runnerscan even catch an incredible view of the coastline while more than 100,000 spectators cheer them on.

This year’s event will even conclude at PetCo Park (walking distance from the Bristol!), a first since its 1998 debut. Enjoy live entertainment along the route, including local bands such as ZB Savory and The Chivalry. San Diego Polo Club Opening Day

The Bristol Hotel is proud to work with Clean the World in their mission toward sustainable global hygiene, and helping hotels go “green.” As a non-profit organization founded in 2009, Clean the World is focused on reducing waste from soap and shampoo products that are normally thrown out by hotels, as well as combating illnesses around the world that can be prevented through better hygiene.

How it Works -

Participating hotels donate soaps, shampoos, and other trash-bound toiletries to Clean the World. The organization sorts, processes, and recycles these products, then distributes them to homeless shelters in the United States, as well as poverty-stricken countries abroad. Through their efforts over the last 4 years, more than 12 million bars of soap have been recycled and distributed throughout the U.S., Canada, and over 67 countries worldwide. All together, Clean the World has not only reduced global illness, but also put upwards of 750 tons of hotel waste to positive use since its inception.

The 35th Annual Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl is a thrilling college football bowl game in San Diego that features some of the most talented players in the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences. Ice Skating in San Diego

Italian fisherman and their families began settling in the northwestern part of downtown San Diego in 1906. They came mostly from San Francisco in the wake of the earthquake that had struck that Northern California city. Construction of Interstate 5 in the 1960’s and 1970s eliminated over a third of the neighborhood. However, in 1994 the Little Italy Association of San Diego was formed, and the neighborhood organized to promote its heritage. In addition to the many Italian shops and restaurants in SD’s Little Italy, several events are held in the neighborhood.

This intimate area features an eclectic mix of buildings, personalities, and activities. FESTA San Diego brings out the best of the neighborhood each year. The festival continues to draw big crowds to India Street, where world-class cuisine and culture convene in delicious ways.

On Saturday mornings you can attend the Little Italy Mercato from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This farmer’s market features fruits, vegetables, bakery, and locally caught seafood. FIRST Avenue Bar & Grille Review

First Avenue Bar & Grille is a gem revealed

San Diego is fast becoming quite a place for food gems. Who would’ve thought that inside a chic boutique hotel called The Bristol lies a restaurant worthy of great praise for its menu and service.

The restaurant also provides in-room dining if hotel guests choose not to come downstairs. I personally loved the comfortable interior and the nice booths which makes for intimate dining.

Start with a cocktail (all $10), either a Cosmopolitan, or my favorite, Cucumber Fresh, a blend of tequila, pressed mint and cucumber and fresh lime juice.

While sipping our cocktails, order some Lightly Fried IPA Battered Green Beans($4.75) served with Meyer lemon aioli. Honestly, the aioli was the best I’ve ever had. I could really taste the Meyer lemon — unlike lots of places touting an ingredient which was lost somewhere in the midst of creativity.

Steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels ($7.75) are a must and at under eight bucks, it’s a STEAL! Neuske’s Applewood smoked bacon, leeks and whole grain mustard complete the well-balanced and full-bodied flavor of the broth and mussels.

I really enjoyed the Smoked Chicken Flatbread ($7.75) with caramelized leeks, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and cilantro. In fact, I took the leftovers with me and reheated the slices in the toaster oven and they were quite delicious the next day.

What really impressed me were the entrees we had next. Grilled Classic Pepper Steak ($17.25) was a no-nonsense, absolutely perfectly seasoned piece of meat cooked medium rare pink. Truffled potato puree and a frisee-chive parmesan salad accompanied. This is an old-school dish done modern-style and executed exquisitely.

The night of our visit, they were doing a special of Roasted Halibut ($17.50) flavored with Neuske’s Applewood Smoked Bacon on a bed of Chino Farms creamed corn, wild arugula and Connelly Gardens charred tomatoes. This special dish was to help the San Diego Food Bank raise money for the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program. I love it when businesses are aware and give back to their community – just another reason to support First Avenue!

Not that we had room for dessert, but our delightful server enticed us to give theHouse-made Sorbet/Gelato ($5) which changes regularly. Our caramel chocolate swirl gelato was very welcoming and since the only dessert I can’t resist is ice cream, it was right up my alley.

However, it was the avocado gelato which blew my mind. It was creamy smooth and possessed the taste of avocados which I so love. I ate spoonful after spoonful vowing to try to make this at home.

Our experience at First Avenue Bar & Grille was such a pleasant one with attentive service and a menu which is worthy of praise. But who would’ve thought it known it being hidden inside this little hotel? Right now, they are running a prime rib special every Thursday. Go check it out sometime, you won’t be disappointed.

Part of the annual San Diego Pride Festival that runs July 20-22, 2012, is the San Diego Pride Parade takes place on Saturday, July 21 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. America’s 4th largest pride parade, the event attracts nearly 200,000 spectators and members of the media. Rock N Roll Marathon

The race is on when the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon returns to San Diego on Sunday, June 3, 2012. Exciting events are planned for the weekend starting with the Health & Fitness Expo at the San Diego Convention Center the Friday and Saturday before. All participating runners are required to stop by to pick up their race number and T-shirt. On Saturday, youngsters join in on the action during the ING KiDS Rock San Diego, a non-timed, non-competitive event for children in grades K-7. The big day begins at Sixth Avenue and Quince Street where participants will take off and make their way through the scenic coastal course until they reach the finish line at South Shores Park. Along the way, live music on multiple stages and 2,000 cheerleaders keep everyone’s spirits high. Seal, Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth are among the headline performers in recent years.
