It's Kick-off Time!
Autumn signals the return of pro football around the United States, and San Diego is no exception to that. Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley is the home of the NFL San Diego Chargers. Representing all of SoCal, the Chargers are part of the AFC Division West.
Last year was a rough one for the Chargers, who didn't make it to the playoffs, which set off some changes in leadership. 2013 promises to be a big year for the team, with a new head coach, Mike McCoy, and Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. They've also got some new blood on the roster including wide receiver Keenan Allen and linebacker Manti Te'o.
Getting to Qualcomm Stadium
Whether you're a diehard Chargers fanatic, a general football junkie, or you're simply along for the ride, there's nothing like being in the stands of a gridiron game. Qualcomm Stadium is easy to access from the freeway—the 805, 163, 15, and 8 are all right there. Traffic can get heavy though, especially off the 15. Public transit is a great time and money-saving alternative. Take the Sports Fan Express, the San Diego Trolley, the North County Express Coach, and even Amtrak- all of which are easily accessible from the Bristol Hotel.
If you do drive, consider hosting a tailgate party. The Qualcomm Stadium parking lots open up five hours before kick-off, so you'll be sure to get in some tasty grilling. If you don't plan to drink alcohol, and want a place that's kid-friendly, check out the Family Parking lot. For more information, call the ticket office at (619) 281-PARK.
